Having had a musical career that peaked early—the band that I was in beat Powderfinger in the 1990 Queensland Rock Awards—I’ve always been in awe of those who are able to thrive in any of the creative industries.
Patrick Nolan is one of those creative people whose career trajectory means he is never short of an interesting story to tell.
Having worked throughout the world, in Australia, NZ, the UK, Brazil, Korea, and contributing to major events such as the Cultural Olympiad, Patrick is currently heading up Opera Queensland as CEO and Artistic Director.
I had the chance to interview him on the podcast and was struck by the innovations they are bringing to stages around Queensland, from Homegrown Opera, turning everyday dramas into performance events, to taking Opera to the regions with the Festival of Outback Opera and other initiatives.
His career has never had a dull moment and the same can be said for the interview.
