After an extended hiatus on the podcast, I was pleased this week to interview David Smith, Cofounder, CEO and Chair of Ceres Tag, a relatively new company specialising in livestock monitoring using tags and satellites.
Despite only officially launching in 2021, the company is already operating in 36 countries, and has extended beyond farming livestock into tracking wildlife, game, and invasive species, and is soon to move into the companion animal arena as well.
We discussed the challenge of launching a world-first application, a process which took five years of efficacy testing and obtaining regulatory approval for a market application that hadn’t existed before.
The origin story for the business is fascinating, particularly seeing how the idea evolved and the hurdles and synchronicities that David and his wife, the other cofounder of the business encountered along the way.
Even if you have no interest in livestock monitoring at all, I’ve no doubt you’ll find David’s story as interesting as I did.
